John Boadu has been elected National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), returning to its national leadership alongside Justin Kodua Frimpong, who retained the General Secretary position. The elections took place at the party’s National Delegates Conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on October 3, 2026. More than 7,000 delegates gathered for the conference, according to 3News. Boadu received 2,888 votes, finishing ahead of Boakye Agyarko, who polled 2,408. The reported figures put his winning margin at 480 votes. Kodua secured 4,486 votes, compared with 1,340 for his nearest challenger, Sylvester Tetteh, according to Graphic Online. Former rivals in the same leadership team The outcome places Boadu and Kodua in two central positions within the party’s administration, four years after they competed for the same office. In 2022, Kodua defeated Boadu in the General Secretary contest. Boadu’s election as chairman now creates a different working relationship: the former rivals will serve together as the party prepares for the 2028 general election. This is the central organisational significance of the results. A leadership contest selects individuals; the next stage requires those individuals to coordinate their work across the party. Who won the national positions? The following winners were reported by Ghanaian news organisations covering the conference: NPP NATIONAL LEADERSHIP ELECTED IN 2026 National Chairman: John Boadu First National Vice Chairman: Kojo Fosu Boadu (Kojo Bamba) Second National Vice Chairman: Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B) Third National Vice Chairman: Nana Akomea General Secretary: Justin Kodua Frimpong National Organiser: Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover National Treasurer: Alfred K. Thompson National Women’s Organiser: Mavis Hawa Koomson National Youth Organiser: Abanga Fuseini Yakubu National Nasara Organiser: Mohammed Ali Suraj National Communications Director: Dennis Miracles Aboagye In the vice-chairmanship contest, Kojo Fosu Boadu received 3,116 votes, Henry Nana Boakye secured 3,061 and Nana Akomea polled 2,987, according to GBC’s results report. Titus-Glover won the National Organiser position with 2,964 votes. Miracles Aboagye was reported elected unopposed as National Communications Director. What the results mean for 2028 The conference elected officers to run the party’s national organisation. It was not a presidential candidate selection exercise, and the results do not measure support among Ghana’s wider electorate. From an organisational perspective, the new team brings together responsibility for administration, mobilisation, finance and public communication. Its effectiveness will depend on how these functions work together, rather than on the individual vote totals alone. Boadu’s return and Kodua’s retention offer a combination of leadership change and administrative continuity. Whether that combination strengthens the party will become clearer through its work with regional and constituency structures and its preparations for the next national campaign. The immediate outcome is a new national leadership team. Its broader political significance will depend on what that team delivers between the conference and the 2028 election.
