Ghanaian dancehall musician Kaakie has reached a new milestone outside the entertainment industry after earning a Doctor of Nursing Practice qualification and establishing a mental health practice in the United States.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The musician, born Grace Kaki Awo Ocansey<\/strong> and professionally known in healthcare as Grace Aidoo<\/strong>, is now working as a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her transition represents a return to a profession that formed part of her life long before she became widely known as one of Ghana\u2019s prominent female dancehall performers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From nursing school to Ghana\u2019s dancehall scene<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before Kaakie became a familiar name in Ghanaian music, she had already begun building a career in healthcare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She studied nursing and midwifery at the University of Ghana<\/strong>, laying the foundation for a professional journey that would later continue outside the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her public profile, however, changed considerably after she entered the entertainment industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kaakie gained national attention through the music reality competition Stars of the Future<\/em> before subsequently working with renowned Ghanaian producer JMJ and joining Xtra Large Music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She went on to establish herself in Ghana\u2019s dancehall scene with songs including Too Much<\/em>, Ewoo<\/em> and Zuuchia<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her emergence came at a period when Ghana\u2019s mainstream dancehall industry was largely dominated by male performers, making Kaakie one of the most visible female artists within the genre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her success was recognised at the 2013 Ghana Music Awards<\/strong>, where she won Best New Artiste and Reggae\/Dancehall Song of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But behind the growing music career was another professional ambition that had never completely disappeared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kaakie returns to healthcare<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As her appearances in the music industry became less frequent, Kaakie increasingly focused on education, family and healthcare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She subsequently pursued further studies abroad, building on her original nursing and midwifery training and eventually specialising in psychiatric mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is now professionally identified as Grace Aidoo, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC<\/strong>, reflecting advanced nursing education and certification in psychiatric mental healthcare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her reported completion of a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)<\/strong> represents the latest stage of that academic journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A DNP is a doctoral-level nursing qualification focused on advanced clinical nursing practice. It is different from the MD qualification awarded to physicians, an important distinction when describing her new professional status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mental health practice established in Ohio<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kaakie\u2019s transition into healthcare has also extended beyond academic qualifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She has established Kaylora Holistic Wellness & Recovery LLC<\/strong>, a mental health practice based in Ohio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The practice provides psychiatric and mental health services, including assessments, medication management and therapeutic care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the conditions addressed are anxiety, depression, attention-deficit\/hyperactivity disorder, bipolar disorder, trauma-related conditions and post-traumatic stress disorder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Services also extend to different age groups, including children, adolescents and adults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The development means Kaakie\u2019s professional life in the United States has moved considerably beyond the entertainment identity through which many Ghanaians first came to know her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At first glance, Kaakie\u2019s journey could easily be described as a musician abandoning entertainment to become a healthcare professional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her history tells a slightly different story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nursing came before dancehall.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kaakie\u2019s healthcare training had already begun before her rise in Ghana\u2019s music industry. Her years as an entertainer therefore sit between two significant periods of healthcare education and practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That distinction makes her story particularly unusual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rather than starting an entirely new profession after music, she has returned to an earlier career and advanced to one of the highest levels of clinical nursing education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
